TIMSS 2007

Some recent results from the 2007 TIMSS tests:    

The grade 8 test was given in 36 countries and 6 "benchmarking participants".
Canada had 3 provincial "benchmarks", along with Massachusetts and Minnesota.
Here a few questions with a few selected "country" scores:
A Grade 4 question:

Only 15% of kids (in all countries and benchmarks) received full marks.
The U.S. had 23% correct answers. Ontario had 12%.
In Hong Kong, it was 39% (the highest Asian score on that question).
Mass. was the highest at 47%.

Other Grade 4 questions: (with answers!)
 
32% got it right, with Hong Kong & Singapore (the highest scores) at 63%, Ontario = 39% and U.S. = 38%.
 
42% got it right, Chinese Taipei got 88%, Hong Kong 85%, Quebec 42%, U.S. 41%.


... and Grade 8 questions:
 
32% got it right with the Asian countries (as usual) coming out on top with 70% - 75% getting it right.
Quebec 49%, England 42%, Ontario 37%, Massachusetts 35%, U.S. 26%.



 
57% got it right with the Asian countries (as usual) coming out on top ... along with Slovenia!
